SignDoc® from SOFTPRO and Wacom pen tablets – state-of-the art signature authentication system for signing electronic documents and transactions

SOFTPRO Software Professional GmbH is based in Boeblingen , Germany and is a leading vendor worldwide of systems for the verification of handwritten signatures. The company’s portfolio includes solutions for securing the authenticity and integrity of electronic documents for industries like automotive, insurance, chemicals, construction, finance, healthcare and logistics.

SignDoc® is a module of SOFTPRO’s SignPlus® product suite. It secures the authenticity and integrity of electronic documents using a digitized handwritten signature. By signing digitally with the electromagnetic, cableless and battery-free pen of Wacom tablets, SignDoc® captures the shape of a signature, as well as invisible writing characteristics like pressure, speed and acceleration, for later comparison. The information about the signature is profiled, encrypted and compressed, and can be stored for authentication or identification in a database system, smart card or token device. SOFTPRO has implemented metrics for assessing the complexity of static characteristics and dynamic signals of a signature in the enrollment process. This initially defined quality level of a user's signature is taken into consideration throughout the verification process, which ensures that a document will be marked as ‘manipulated’ if its contents have been changed by an unauthorized person.

SignDoc and Wacom tablets not only contribute to document security, but also minimize paper usage and related costs (printing, shipping, scanning, indexing). Additionally, this pen-based solution enables organisations to achieve higher levels of automatization and as a result more productive workflows.

Why are SignDoc® and Wacom pen tablets the ideal solution for secure signature verification and document authenticity?

Accurate capturing of static and dynamic characteristics of a signature is crucial for secure verification of digital handwritten signatures. To enable this to be done a set of quality criterias for capturing signatures with digitizing instruments has been defined by SOFTPRO. When capturing signatures in SignDoc, the required quality levels are provided by the Wacom Graphire or Intuos pen tablets, or the Interactive Pen Displays, in a way that customers can rely on. These tablets take the required number of time signals when comparing static signature characteristics and dynamic signature signals. And what is more important, Wacom tablets are able to differentiate between various pressure levels and provide the appropriate resolution rate.

Graphire, Intuos

Specific solution advantages

  • Numerous levels of pressure sensitivity for accurate capturing of static and dynamic characteristics of a signature.
  • Optional Inking Pen (Graphire and Intuos2) allows the use of paper where required, so signatures can be created on paper and in digitized form at the same time.

PL-710 Interactive Pen Display

Specific solution advantages

  • Signing with the electromagnetic pen directly on the LC Display eliminates paper workload and comes close to the natural feel of signing on paper.
  • Numerous levels of pressure sensitivity for accurate capturing of static and dynamic characteristics of a signature.
