A New Approach to Digital Cephalometry

Visual diagnostic imaging by means of radiographs, dental casts and facial photos is still one of the most important components in the process of treatment planning in orthodontics and oral-maxillofacial surgery. Powerful technology and the increasing availability of digital dental imaging techniques allow this process to be performed by personal computers. This can clearly improve quality and reproducibility while significantly reducing time expenditure.

The Windows software Onyx Ceph was developed by Image Instruments, especially for applications in visual diagnostics, treatment planning, surgical predictions, communication, presentation, documentation and for education and training in orthodontics and oral-maxillofacial surgery. The combination of Onyx Ceph with the Cintiq Interactive Pen Display enables orthodontic images to be traced and visual treatment planning to be performed directly on the full-colour LCD display. Working with the Cintiq Pen directly on the display allows excellent hand-eye coordination. This allows surgeons to work much more quickly and precisely than before in locating specific landmarks and defining bony and soft tissue regions for treatment planning and surgical predictions.

The pen-based solution was developed to increase the acceptance of Digital Cephalometry at universities, clinics and dental practices, and therefore to enable much more efficient treatment of patients.

Onyx Ceph and Cintiq Interactive Pen Display are the ideal combination for a more efficient treatment process.

Using a Cintiq™ Interactive Pen Display enables all the required graphical data input to be made using the Cintiq™ Grip Pen in a way that combines the ergonomic advantages of manual handling with those of digital technology. Thanks to the precise, direct and intuitive input method, the whole workflow becomes much more user-friendly and efficient. Due to the fact that a mouse is no longer needed, this is the ideal solution for a space-saving and ergonomic working environment. But although all graphical and input options of Onyx Ceph have been optimised for use with Cintiq™ Interactive Pen Displays, there are no limitations on the use of PC mice and keyboards as either alternative or additional input devices.
